Maelstrom – Dissonant Discourses
with André and Mark
A conversational podcast about philosophy, society, psychology/therapy – and about the methods we use to explain the world: systems thinking, dialectics, psychoanalysis, ideology critique, political theory and related fields.
For us, the maelstrom principle means: We allow ourselves to be drawn into topics, let ourselves be carried along by the current, and freely associate within the subject matter. At the same time, we keep one foot outside, examine our arguments, and venture back to the concept. The principle is sometimes chaos with structure, sometimes chaos as structure.
Importantly, this isn't just venting off the cuff. André and Mark work systematically. They read and discuss primary texts, categorize terms, examine arguments, compare traditions – and try to translate all of this into practice: into political judgment as well as into working with people, conflicts, and systems.
At the same time, it's important to remember that not every idea needs to be fully formed to be discussed. Maelstrom sees itself as a workshop format – with room for corrections, refinements, and occasional self-contradictions. Where something remains imperfect, it's not a flaw to be glossed over, but rather a signal: Here, further work, sources, and precision are worthwhile.
The aim is not infallibility, but honesty: to say as clearly as possible what one knows, what one has reasonable grounds to suspect, and where one still needs to learn – without losing the courage to follow through.
A podcast for people who prefer to work on a good question rather than being satisfied with quick answers.

Fundamental to our work is what we call the diamodernist Philosophy that we represent and stand for.
The expression of this is ultimately a common program – that of a world republican socialism:
We try to shape democratic law, communist production and cosmopolitan organization intellectually in this spirit – each in our own way and not always in the most direct way.
The topics on this site deal with politics, economics, psychology, philosophy, science, religion, love, dreams, horror and criticism - but always under the sign of artistic expression.
But artistic expression also means this:
As political – albeit socially entangled – beings, rationality and analysis are at the forefront of our minds as the foundations of our criticism.
This is especially true where they promote enlightenment, i.e. try to lead people of every class out of a state of social immaturity. However, in CM the focus is always on the creative shaping of our thoughts.
This inevitably leads to irritation of the audience in the artist’s absolute autonomy.
Associative subjectivity, objective conceptual work, and metaphysical intuition, as well as unwieldy styles and unresolved affects, intertwine in the open play of images and texts. Unfortunately, didactics and clarity often fall by the wayside.
So we don't actually expect to be understood at all times, even though we consider ourselves to be entirely understandable.

Those who do so should of course feel particularly welcome. But all others who at least have the courage to approach a critical understanding should feel even more so.
For questions, comments, contradictions, recognitions or even just a warm “Hello”, no one is afraid to contact us. here or comment on individual posts.

We will respond, although it may be delayed due to personal commitments. But everyone can be assured that we are delighted.
As convinced world republicans, we will tolerate and allow any non-eliminatory, non-openly offensive statement – divergent opinions are therefore explicitly permitted.
However, we are vain enough to also gladly accept praise and friendship.
